I had the opportunity to speak at the Lyallpur Freelancing Summit, where I delivered a session on “Roadmap to Become a Freelancer,” sharing practical guidance with students, aspiring freelancers, and young professionals looking to build careers in the digital economy.
The session focused on the complete journey of becoming a freelancer—from choosing the right skill and gaining practical experience to building a portfolio, finding clients, and developing a sustainable career.
I discussed the importance of selecting a skill based on both personal interest and market demand. Rather than trying to learn everything at once, beginners should focus on developing one valuable skill and gaining enough practical experience to confidently offer it to clients.
Another major part of the session was portfolio building and personal branding. I explained how beginners can demonstrate their abilities through practical projects, even before they have extensive professional experience, and how a strong online presence can help establish credibility.
We also discussed client acquisition through platforms such as Fiverr and Upwork, along with direct outreach and networking. I highlighted that successful freelancing requires more than simply creating a profile and waiting for orders. Understanding client requirements, communicating professionally, delivering quality work, and building long-term relationships are equally important.
I also shared the importance of thinking beyond individual projects. Freelancing can become a stepping stone toward building a team, launching an agency, developing digital products, and eventually becoming an entrepreneur.
The Lyallpur Freelancing Summit provided a great platform to connect with ambitious young people and discuss the opportunities available in the global digital marketplace.
It was a pleasure to share my experience and help aspiring freelancers understand the practical roadmap from learning a skill to building a sustainable freelance career.
